History of conversion therapy

Converting one’s sexuality was started in late 19th century. At that time, homosexuality was classified as a mental disorder. A German psychiatrist insisted that he had turned gay into straight. It was the beginning of conversion therapy which accepted widely in 20 century though today’s medicine dismissed.Not only the existence of the thought , homosexuality was treated as sinful and criminal for a long time. Then, psychiatrists and even doctors tried to treat homosexuality. In order to make LGBTQ people straight, the techniques called " aversion therapy" was popular. Moreover, in the early time of the therapy, physical treatment such as electric shock was used a lot. In the late 1960s , a Christian group published articles which worries the movement of gay. Through the therapy, some gay abused and finally committed suicide. Even though the conversion therapy had such cruel history, it remains now.
