Banning on conversion therapy in the US
Hi, I'm Chihiro.
Recently, state which bans therapy is increasing one after another. California banned early in 2013 and five states banned in 2018.
There are two criteria to ban the conversion therapy.
・4 states ban it for kids which means under 18 years old.
・18 states ban it for all minor people.
This means 44% of LGBTQ adults live in the states banning the therapy and 56% of them live without laws banning it.
I would like to introduce an example of state made the practice illegal.
On My 31 2019, Governor of Colorado who is gay signed two pro-LGBTQ bills into law. It is the latest act of banning the conversion therapy in the US and it was also positive start for Pride month.
At that time, he said " Colorado is a state where everyone can be their true selves and live the life they want" .
The law is acted for minors so he calls the cruel therapy
" tortuous practice" harming children.
